Have Some Respect For The Fallen

As a military Veteran it really bothers me to see the protests by the members of Westboro Baptist Church at military funerals. The group claims that the deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan are God's punishment for the nation's tolerance on homosexuality. First of all the God that I believe in is not a punishing God but a loving God. Is it just me or does anyone else get mad when they hear people say God will punish you for this or god will punish you for that when they don't agree with what you do or say? Second, why would you protest a fallen service member's funeral if that service member wasn't even gay. Did anyone take the time to find out where the fallen service member stood on homosexuality? Of coarse not the service member is dead. These crazy religious extremist that's what they are extremist, not all religious people are like that, are hiding behind the first amendment to try to push their beliefs on others. The Constitution does give them the right to practice their freedom of speech and according to a ruling by the Supreme Court they have the right to protest funerals as long as they follow police directions.

But what does that do to the families who are mourning the loss of a loved one who gave their life serving their country? The same country that gives these extremist the right to disrespect them after they have died. What does that do to the image of all other churches who are not extremist like Westboro Baptist Church? What is that going to do to the morale of the troops serving in a battle zone as we speak? Westboro Baptist didn't take any of those questions into consideration. They are only interested in getting their names in the paper and their faces on camera. I am a big supporter of the first amendment but I will also support anyone who would pop one of these disrespectful poor excuse for human beings in the mouth. How can anyone who believes in God advocate for the killing of another human being? This a far stretch from praying for those who might be going down the wrong path. I just hope they are ready when they die. Like Lucy, they are gonna have some esplaining to do when they get to the pearly gates.
