Why can't we have a law to make it a criminal act leading to imprisonment to impede federal and state law by politicians, especially in sanctuary cities."

James, I agree with the direction you are going with your comment. We have already exceeded last year's number of murders. Congressman Reyes and local government leaders and the County Sheriff have all spoken out against the proposal of Gov. Perry and the Texas Legislature to require local law enforcement to check immigration status when making a stop.

This was a prime example of political grandstanding.

The problem is that they are right to be concerned over profiling, and will cause a deeper animosity toward law enforcement officers by the Latino community in general.
However, we must remember that people are less likely to be pulled over for "looking Latino" in El Paso than anywhere else in Texas.

The hard work put in by Sheriff Wiles while he was the Chief of Police in El Paso, Sheriff Samaniego, and the Border Patrol to recruit Latinos onto the force will all go to waste because of their political stance. The "Latinization" of these departments helped to establish trust in the community and led to our dubious "Safest City" designation.

This idea that law enforcement will become an auxiliary of the "Green Gestapo" is utter nonsense. Besides, if you have your citizenship or proper documentation - and you're legitimately pulled over then why worry?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3418788580478795082.post-50455869406702286272011-01-30T00:10:20.041-07:002011-01-30T00:10:20.041-07:00The demoncrits are too busy keeping the borders op...The demoncrits are too busy keeping the borders open and allowing all the gangs and murderers to come across from Juarez.
